Carillion boosts margins as McAlpine savings kick in

Carillion saw profit margins rise during the first half of this year on the back of cost savings from the acquisition and integration of Alfred McAlpine in 2008. Margins increased to 2.6% from 2.3% the previous year as cost savings from the McAlpine deal jumped to £35m from £15m, with a saving of £50m predicted for next year. The good news on margins came as pre-tax profits at Carillion soared 92% to £51.9m from £27m on a turnover up 13% to £2.7bn.
