Scientific Significance and Site-selection Researches of the First Chinese Continental Scientific Deep Drillhole

摘要

The Dabie-Sulu ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic (UHPM) belt has been considered as one of the best sites for the International Continental Scientific Drilling as shown by the following facts: (1) The Dabie-Sulu area is the best area for studying crust-mantle interaction at a convergent plate boundary; (2) The formation and ex- humation of UHPM rocks are attractive to continental dynamics studies; (3) The drilling will obtain systematic collection o data about the deepest part of known orogenic roots; (4) The Dabie-Sulu area is also ideal for studying post orogenic processes.
