Misconceptions Regarding IT in the Engineering Industry

Over the past 20 years, technology has advanced at a remarkable rate. And the engineering community has already begun to embrace some mind-boggling technologies such as satellite-based global positioning system (GPS) units, mobile computers, 3-D digital graphics and the Internet. But when it comes to understanding and implementing these resources, we are still in our youth. This has led to many misconceptions regarding the application of information technology (IT) to our work. Engineers need to address some of these misconceptions in order to better understand how we may benefit from IT in the engineering industry.
