While the transfer from one power source to another can be controlled manually or automatically, all transfer switches are built to certain code requirements for transferring loads. No matter what type of transfer switch is used, it is important that the electrical system designer understand the basics about these devices when selecting and applying a transfer switch so as to maintain reliable power and minimize unwanted power outages.
