Performance-based codes are in the news. With the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) developing a performance-based alternative in its "Life Safety Code" (NFPA 101) and the International Code Council (ICC) developing a performance-based building code, some say performance-based codes are the wave of the future. If this is the case, how will these codes affect an engineer's liability?
