From G-men To Green: Fbi Goes Platinum Ebom With Aplomb

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Field Office in Chicago, Illinois, became the first building in the world to earn Platinum certification under the USGBC's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance (LEED-EBOM). Owned by the U.S. Government Building Fund, the 40,000-m~2 (430,000-sf) facility is located on a 4-ha (10-acre) site immediately southwest of the city's central business district. The LEED-EBOM program enables accurate measurement and improvement of operating efficiency, as well as minimization of environmental damage. Certification prerequisites include plumbing fixture efficiency, sustainable purchasing, and solid waste management. Since the program's inception in 2008, approximately six projects have received certification.
