Exterior louvers are necessary in almost all buildings, as they provide the vehicle to supply fresh air to, and exhaust air from, the interior. In hospitals, laboratories, and manufacturing facilities, louvers can make up a large percentage of the building envelope. Despite their prevalence in construction, the integration of these components with surrounding construction is often ignored or not well-understood. This results in unwanted air infiltration and water penetration into the building. Correcting these problems after the building is completed is typically costly and disruptive.
