Understanding Waterstops

There are many different concrete-joint waterstop products being sold in the industry made out of different materials that feature dissimilar features and performance aspects to perform the same function-preventing water ingress into the architectural structure. Waterstops are important as an overall component of keeping the structure dry; especially with additives placed in the concrete to perform the waterproofing. This article seeks to provide an overview of competitive materials, focusing on the dos and don'ts of specifying and actual product installation in the field.
