RELEVANCE OF THE STANDARDISATION OF CEMENT AND CEMENT-BASED MATERIALS TO SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION

Standardisation is a strategic issue for the cement industry, thanks to which new products, such as blended cements, have been brought to market. It has also contributed to improving cement properties and quality over time and to the introduction of a proactive approach to environmental protection. At present, the new Construction Products Regulation that repealed the Construction Products Directive on 1 July 2013, includes a new basic requirement, requirement 7: sustainable use of natural resources. Under that provision, construction works must be designed, built and demolished in a manner that ensures the sustainable use of natural resources and in particular guarantees.
