McAlpine aims for gold with Commonwealth Games venue

In the changing landscape of Glasgow's East End, a large-scale, landmark sports venue is rapidly taking shape with complex engineering. Incorporating two distinct arenas under one roof and with a gross floor area of 42,000m~2, the National Indoor Sports Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome will be one of the largest facilities of its kind in Europe. A key venue for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the development comprises a 5,000-seat indoor arena and 4,000-capacity velodrome linked by a four-storey "hub", accommodating offices, VIP and media facilities. A community sports centre, four floodlit five-a-side pitches and a 1 km outdoor cycle track will also be provided, the venues and associated facilities covering nearly all of the 10.5 hectare site.
