Audience hears experts outline construction's digital future

The high-tech setting of the University of Salford's THINKlab provided a highly suitable backdrop for NW Novus's exploration of Future Design Practices by 2050 as two keynote speakers presented their visions of the future of the built environment. Dr Tuba Kocaturk, a leader in digital architectural design at the university, explored the future of design within the built environment - the "digital Zeitgeist" or "tabula rasa". She presented a vision of design beyond that currently constrained by the replicable realities of construction products, to one developed through the construction of the relationships between component elements through digital architectural design, which are themselves linked to digital fabrication processes.
