The commercial sector has enjoyed considerable growth over the past two years, driven in the main by rises in levels of output in the offices sub-sector, which accounts for over one third of the commercial sector as a whole. Work in PFI education and health sub-sectors also contributed to the double-digit rises in commercial sector construction output in 2006 and 2007. The levels of new orders during 2006 and 2007 should also be able to provide continued growth in output during 2008. However, the offices and retail sub-sectors are likely to be negatively affected by the economic slowdown, limiting the prospects in 2009 and 2010, despite expectations of good growth in the education and health sub-sectors.
