In May last year, FIEC published a position paper on the Ecodesign & Energy Labelling Directives, in which it called for construction products to be kept out of the scope of both of the directives. FIEC believes that developing implementing measures for construction products under these directives risks duplicating measures that already exist, notably under the Construction Products Regulation. Having been initially reassured that the European Commission department responsible for these directives - Directorate-General (DG) Energy - did not wish to extend their scope unnecessarily, FIEC is aware of a steady stream of Preparatory Studies on construction products. These studies form the basis of decisions that are taken regarding which products should be subject to Ecodesign & Energy Labelling.
