CE's field-test evaluation looks at design changes, new options and performance capabilities. Unless you have a very sharp eye, you won't notice much external difference between Caterpillar's latest 416C backhoe and the 416C model it replaces. But even though the model designation didn't change, the newest 416C, introduced in January, does have a number of significant refinements. CE editors got a close look at the new model during a recent in-the-dirt evaluation that included comparisons with the model it replaces, plus an assessment of how the new 416C's optional ride-control system and integrated-toolcarrier front end affect its performance.
