How to Keep Fuel Clean

The simplest strategies stop water and dirt from damaging today's refined fuel systems. Fuel injection pressures have doubled to nearly 30,000 psi in unit injectors over the past ten years, and higher pressures demand dry, clean fuel. The holes in injector nozzles are so small that a little bit of water or grit which gets past on-board fuel filters can cause the tip to blow off an injector. Basic fuel-system maintenance and smart fuel buying will protect most systems.
