Tognum subsidiary MTU will be showcasing its new generation of Series 2000 engines conforming to the EPA Tier 4 interim emissions legislation that is due to come into force in the US in 2011. The new engines use up to 8% less fuel than their predecessors, despite the significant reduction in emissions limits. Series 2000 covers a power range from 752hp (561kW) to l,560hp (l,163kW) and suggested uses include harbor and mobile cranes, excavators, underground and open-cast mining vehicles and wheeled loaders as well as drilling equipment ana pumps. As well as the fuel savings, life-cycle costs have also been reduced through longer intervals between overhaul, claimed to be up to 18,000hours depending on load profile.
