According to filtration experts, the Beta Ratio is an objective way to compare filter performance. The Beta Ratio is determined by the ISO 16889 standard for multipass testing and provides data for a range of particulate sizes. Without getting into exact details, the test involves contaminating clean fluid by adding a specific amount of test dust with a known particle-size distribution, circulating the fluid through the filter being tested, and continuously measuring particle counts downstream of the filter. The test usually concludes when a specific pressure differential (filter inlet-to-outlet) is detected.
