The narrow design of the new ECR25D short-swing-radius mini excavator, says Volvo Construction Equipment, makes this 5,489-pound machine an ideal choice when working space is limited, such as excavating in proximity to walls and foundations or making utility repairs on busy urban streets. In standard trim and equipped with 10-inch-wide rubber tracks, the new Volvo, which replaces the model ECR28, has zero tail swing; with its optional rear counterweight, tail swing is less than 3 inches. Wider tracks (12 inches) are available. Powering the ECR25D is the 20.9-horsepower (gross), Tier 4-Interim Volvo D1.1A engine. As a fuel-saving measure, an auto-idle feature reduces engine speed when controls are inactive for more than five seconds, or when the left-hand console is raised. The three-cylinder engine, with a displacement of 1.123 liters, has a rated speed of 2,400 rpm.
