Volvo Construction Equipment will launch its new intelligent-compaction system with Density Direct in the 4th quarter of 2015 on double-drum asphalt models DD110B, DD120B, and DD140B. Density Direct, says Volvo, provides real-time density calculations for the surface area being compacted, and once fully calibrated with data specific to the application, the system produces density calculations that correlate extremely well with core sampling. For intelligent-compaction capability on its single-drum soil models (SD70 through SD200), Volvo recommends the Volvo version of Trimble's CCS900 system.
