1. Mainland GDP growth slowed to 0.2% (q-o-q) in Q1, compared with a 1.1% advance in Q4, as domestic demand eased sharply. However, a significant portion of that decrease came from lower electricity production and, possibly, greater uncertainty in seasonal adjustment relating to the early Easter holiday this year. 2. A steep fall in investment in Q1 (although quarterly figures are extremely volatile) has led to forecasts for that variable to be downgraded this month. Meanwhile, private consumption increased by a modest 0.3% (q-o-q) gain in Q1, following a 1.0% rise in Q4.
