The economic situation continued to deteriorate in February, leaving manufacturers more pessimistic than ever before. Indeed our panel expects manufacturing production to contract by a huge 9.5% this year, whilst investment falls by 8.7% as companies put off expansion plans. The resulting rise in unemployment which began in Q4 2008 has continued, and is causing consumers to rein in their spending.
