1.Mainland GDP rose by 0.9% (q-o-q) in Q3, an acceleration from the 0.5% pace seen in Q2. Growth was driven by resounding strength in the domestic market as consumer spending rose by 1.3% (q-o-q) on the back of falling unemployment. Investment, however, faltered over the quarter. The measure posted a contraction of 7% (q-o-q) as the off-shore oil sector struggled. 2. Though GDP forecasts have improved this month, the relatively shallow recession in Norway has meant less spare capacity in the economy and, hence, reduced potential for a rapid expansion similar to its neighbours.
