The latest output-based, monthly GDP report confirmed the slowdown in the economy going into Q2, compared with growth rates of 1.2% (q-o-q) and 1.5% recorded in Q4 2009 and Q1 2010, respectively. GDP rose by only 0.1 % (m-o-m) in May, up from zero growth in April, although the y-o-y rate surged from 3.3% in the previous month to 3.8%, thanks to positive base-year effects. Growth fundamentals remain relatively solid, as evidenced by industrial activity.
