The UK economy slipped further into recession in Q2 2012 as output shrank by 0.7% (q-o-q), its largest contraction since Q1 2009. The greater-than-anticipated decline was led by collapsing construction, which plummeted by 5.2% (q-o-q) as bad weather disrupted the sector. An additional public holiday also reduced activity which was reflected in a 0.9% (q-o-q) drop in industrial production. However, this is the initial GDP estimate and thus offers some scope for revision to the second Q2 GDP release.
