Following a run toward US$120 per barrel last month, Brent futures slipped to US$110.22 on March 11. Initially, supply concerns boosted prices after the Brent pipeline system in the North Sea (which usually carries around 90,000 barrels a day) was shut down at the beginning of March as the result of a leak. The pipeline has since reopened, alleviating worries over supply. Unlike the stock market optimism of recent weeks, crude prices have remained near their lows for the year so far on the back of concerns over global activity and resulting oil demand.
