Oil prices have trended up this summer, propelled by driving season. This, coupled with strong demand from US oil refineries, led to a fall in Cushing inventories and pushed up WTI to US$108 per barrel. The price of Brent had been hovering just above this level. After diverging in recent years (with US prices pulled down on the back of the domestic shale boom), Brent and WTI appear to be converging again. On August 12, Brent stood at US$108.97 while WTI hit US$106.11.
