Q4 GDP growth expanded by 0.7% (q-o-q), the same rate of advance as in Q3 2013. In y-o-y terms, GDP accelerated from 1.0% in Q4 2012 to 2.2% in Q3 2013 and finally 2.7% at the end of last year. This solid expansion was due partly to inventory building and a modest contribution from net trade. Personal expenditure was the main driver of growth, though, rising by 2.5% (y-o-y) on the back of spending on services and non-durables. By contrast, machinery & equipment investment had a weak quarter, declining by 0.6% (y-o-y) for a second consecutive quarter which left investment for 2013 at a negligeable ＋0.2%.
