The 2016 GDP expansion of 0.8% was the economy's worst performance since 2009, although the 0.3% (q-o-q) rise in Q4 displayed signs of improvement. This partly reflected an upturn in household consumption, which increased by 0.7% (q-o-q). Manufacturing activity slumped for much of the year but finished on stronger footing, climbing by 1.1% (m-o-m) in December.
