Aided by a softer Swiss franc, the Federal Customs Administration reported a record exports performance in 2017. Exports climbed by 4.7% (y-o-y) on average, boosted by increases in almost all major groups, including the large chemical and pharmaceuticals sectors. Shipments to North America and Asia hit new highs. Meanwhile, imports grew sharply by 6.9%, trimming the overall trade balance to SwFr 34.8bn, from SwFr 36.9bn in 2016.
