As an open economy heavily influenced by trade flows and exports, the recovery of the Dutch economy will be partly linked with developments in the global economy. While the peak of the virus is thought to have been overcome, and some lockdown restrictions are relaxed, broken supply chains and border controls could have an impact for some time to come and affect the degree to which activity will rebound in 2021. Consumer confidence fell at a record pace in April, while manufacturing only dropped -0.2% (q-o-q) in Q1, but plunged noticeably according to April's latest PMI report.
