Brushing aside the economic fragility revealed in the Q3 national accounts data, the Riksbank hiked its key policy rate from -0.50% to -0.25% on December 20, its first rise since July 2011. Insisting that monetary policy would still support economic activity, policymakers vowed to approach future policy tightening cautiously in view of heightened external risks, as well as the slightly weaker-than-ex-pected trend in domestic GDP growth and inflation.
