SBC gets DOJ backing in Texas

SBC Communications has its brass ring—almost. In an unprecedented move last week, the Department of Justice unconditionally approved SBC's application to provide Texans long-distance service. While the DOJ's blanket recommendation of an RBOC's entrance into in-region long-distance is a first, the decision also represents a reversal of the DOJ's February rejection of SBC's bid on several points.
