Lucent Technologies last week logged its 10th consecutive losing quarter and filled in strategy details on its return to profitability. But with such an extensive product line and far fewer employees than in late 2000, the newest moves may not be enough to solve the company's woes. The vendor, which reported fourth quarter revenue of $2.28 billion and a net loss of $2.81 billion, is basing its restructuring on a shift back to more traditional products (see figure). "We decided to focus on nearer and clearer market opportu- nities," Lucent CEO Patricia Russo said during the company's fourth quarter earnings call last week.
