摘要

Does fixed wireless need its own CableLabs? Many in this fractured industry seem to think so. It's easy to see why a DOCSIS-type standard for fixed wireless would help the sector gain the stability and broadband market share it so desperately needs. But not everyone views CableLabs as an unqualified success, and unifying all fixed wireless vendors is easier said than done. In 2002 A.D.―After DOCSIS, that is―cable TV dominates the broadband access market. DOCSIS is cable's ever-evolving set of interoperability specifications that tell vendors how to build products that will work whether a consumer plugs them into his cable line in an AT&T system in Denver or an AOL Time Warner system in Rochester, N.Y.
