It's not the first time content providers have clashed with the companies that connect content consumers to the Internet. But previous clashes have been minor skirmishes compared with today's battle in which the opponents have considerably more at stake. At issue is whether telcos, cable companies and other service providers should be allowed to charge content providers for a differentiated class of service that would deliver content to end users with higher priority or greater bandwidth.
