Contrary to some concerns, consumer bandwidth in the U.S. has boomed over the last eight years, reach-ing a per-capita level of 2.4 megabits per second in 2008, up from 28 kilobits per second in 2000, according to a new report by Entropy Economics. "Bandwidth Boom: Measuring U.S. Communications Capacity from 2000 to 2008" noted that overall consumption reached 717 terabits per second by the end of 2008, with wireless data bandwidth being a major factor, growing from a nationwide total of 600 gigabits per second in 2000 to a staggering 325 Tb/s by the end of 2008.
