One Angel Square: Manchester

One Angel Square in Manchester is the new head office for The Co-operative Group and has achieved the highest BREEAM rating for any office building in the UK. The brief for One Angel Square - to provide column-free, long-span floor plates and a unique use of exposed precast concrete - has assisted in creating a high-quality office environment and flexible floor plates for future commercial adaptability and tenancy. The use of precast concrete has also been extended to the facade, where impressive white tapering transition columns provide a robust plinth to a lozenge-shaped steel and glass double facade, which meets visitors and users as they approach the building. The building is the head office for The Co-operative Group but the purpose of the brief was to create a sustainable and commercial building that could compete on the open market. The result of this has been a very successful sale and lease back of the building following completion.
