Prices for new dry freight containers rebounded yet again in early 2006, rising over 40% from their lows at end-2005. However, there are already signs that the latest recovery might not be sustained. Prices for the delivery of new dry freight containers recovered strongly in the opening half of 2006, after experiencing an earlier, equally dramatic decline from mid-2005. Prices rose by more than 40% between March and July 2006, having tumbled by 60% in the eight months to January 2006. This followed a similar roller-coaster ride during the preceding 18 months, when prices jumped over 65% from their former low point, in late 2003, to a 10-year high in early 2005.
