Barge service set for Liverpool

Manchester-based Seaborn Container Line has started a barge service between Liverpool's Royal Seaforth container terminal and Irlam container terminal, 40 miles up the Manchester Ship Canal, just outside Manchester. Three barges a week are offered, each providing a capacity of 160TEU. Although the Manchester Ship Canal used to be employed to move general cargo between Liverpool and Manchester many years ago, in recent times it has only been used for the transport of bulk commodities.
