DP World adds capacity in India

Recording a 21% jump in its Indian container throughput in 2007, up to 3.5 million TEU over 2006, DP World - a major independent terminal operator in India - has said that it is developing more capacity to meet country's demand. Ganesh Raj, senior vp/man-aging director (Indian Subcontinent) of DP World, told CI: 'Our volume growth in container terminals in India is reflective of the overall growth in containerised trade in India.' Raj added that some of the company's facilities are at 'near capacity', and demand is being met 'primarily through efficiency improvement measures. 'It is imperative that there is increased focus on this critical infrastructure aspect, if India has to maintain or surpass these growth numbers,' he said.
