Westwood Shipping Line set for changes

The US-based niche operator Westwood Shipping Line may have a new owner soon. The carrier which is currently wholly-owned by the forest products giant Weyerhaeuser Company, one of the largest exporters in the US, has announced that there will be changes 'as part of its ongoing portfolio restructuring'. According to the company statement, Weyerhaeuser is exploring strategic alternatives for Westwood Shipping Line, as well as the four regional short line railroads it also owns, namely DeQueen & Eastern, Columbia & Cowlitz, MSV and Golden Triangle. Weyerhaeuser uses these short lines primarily to carry cargoes from mills in the states of Arkansas, Washington, Mississippi and Oklahoma, although third-party customers also carry cargo on them.
