摘要

The 'wheel of fortune' that seems to hang over world container port developments appears to be shifting to Latin America, with several deals concluded in the river Plate area of Argentina and Uruguay in recent months. Singapore-based PSA International and International Port Holdings (IPH), for instance, have reportedly invested USD400-USD600 million in buying 80% of the Exolgan container terminal, which is located on the outskirts of Buenos Aires (BA), from the Roman family. Clearly, this high price for a terminal which only handled 560,000TEU last year, suggests that the companies are buying into the terminal's trading potential. Already, DP World (Terminales Rio de la Plata in BA), ICTSI (at Terminal 5), and APM Terminals (APM T) are active in BA's, Puerto Nuevo box-handling complex.
