MSC has expanded its involvement in the trans-Tsman trade between Australia and New Zealand following the withdrawal of Maersk from the weekly 'butterfly' service. The Geneva-based carrier has introduced the 1,118TEU MSC Frisia (ex Asian Trader) to the South Island-focused butterfly schedule alongside the 1.733TEU MSC Edith and will continue the current fixed-day port rotation of Sydney, Melbourne, Port Chalmers, Lyttelton, Wellington, Nelson, Sydney. ANL buys slots on the link. ANL is also continuing its partnership with MSC on the North Island-centred Kiwi service, which is maintained with the 1,118TEU capacity ANL Yarrunga and 1.733TEU vessel, MSC Kiwi, on a Sydney, Burnie (fortnightly), Melbourne, Auckland, Tauranga, Sydney roster.
