The government-owned Mauritius Shipping Corporation (MSCL) runs two multipurpose vessels to carry containers and passengers between Port Loius and other important ports in the region. However, the company's two ships, the 17-year old Mauritius Pride and the six-year old Mauritius Trochetia, which can load 268 passengers/79TEU and 112 passengers/165TEU, respectively, are both small and not particularly fuel-efficient. In the current trading climate, these present the line with many challenges.
