APL adds W.Asia-Middle East service

APL has introduced a new service between Thailand's main port Laem Chabang and the Middle East, called Laem Chabang West Asia Express service (LWX). The weekly service deploys 4 × 2,500TEU vessels and the port rotation is Laem Chabang, Singapore, Karachi, Jebel Ali, Dammam, Karachi, Singapore and back to Laem Chabang. APL claims that it is the first ocean carrier to offer a direct service between Laem Chabang and Karachi, and that it provides the best transit time between Thailand/Singapore and Karachi. Irshad Ahmed, secretary, Thai-Pakistan Chamber of commerce, told CI: 'The trading activities are improving between Thailand and Pakistan and we welcome new shipping services. Pakistan is importing loads of automobile parts and machinery and electronic items.
