Veolia to acquire Rail4Chem

The privately-owned French railway company Veolia Cargo is to acquire Rail4Chem from BASF, Hoyer, Bertschi and VTG for an undisclosed price. The deal is still subject to regulatory approval, but could be finalised before the end of June 2008. Although Rail4 Chem mainly carries breakbulk cargo, it also provides traction services for several blocktrain services retailed by others, so its independent ownership is of great interest to many in the container world.
