UK to get new deep-sea terminal

The UK Government has finally approved PD Ports' plan to build a new 1.5 million TEU capacity container terminal in Teesport in the UK's north east region. Assuming that the construction tender process starts immediately, and that is a big if as the financial business plan still has to be approved by shareholders, the facility could be up and running by mid-2011. For many shippers, that is 40 months too late, as both Felixstowe and Southampton are struggling to keep up with demand, and no quick solution is in sight.
