Containers handled at ports in South Asia dipped in HI 09 as the recession took hold (see table).rnAt India's largest box port Jawaharlal Nehru (JNP), throughput declined almost 15% to 1.84 million TEU, with the Government-controlled Jawaharlal Nehru Port Terminal the worst hit. Its volumes slumped by over 34% to 432,370 TEU.rnIn contrast, India's east coast port of Kolkata and the north west coast facility at Pipavav port, which is managed by APM Terminals, recorded increases in their box volumes of 7% and 9.6% respectively (see table).
