World fleet changes, July 2009

Following a trend set almost a year ago, no new orders for containerships were again placed in July.rnDue to continuing deliveries and cancellations, the orderbook for fully-cellular vessels dropped to 5.3 million TEU (990 ships). This represented a contraction of 19.3% compared to the capacity on order a year earlier, but the total on order still amounted to 42.1% of the fully-cellular fleet in service.rnThe number of ships on order has not fallen below 1,000 vessels since 2004, when the capacity on order at the end of the year reached 3.8 million TEU, representing 54% of the fully-cellular fleet capacity in service, and orderbook capacity growth finished at a high 43.7%.
