While Maersk Line's involvement in the increasing citrus trade between Morocco and Russia is nothing new, its direct call Marus service is more efficient and significantly faster than its previous transhipment operation. It has also been launched at a time when Russia's principal marketing and integrated distribution companies are falling apart and individual wholesalers and retailers are doing the freight contracting. The movement of smaller cargo lots on a more frequent basis are better suited to their needs while the container appears the favoured mode of transport.
